TRAI has released the Data related to Telecom Subscription for the month for March, 2012. As per the Data, India added about 80 Lakh new Mobile subscriber in March itself with Airtel getting the maximum 25 Lakh new customers, followed by Idea that added about 20 Lakh new subscribers & third spot was taken by Uninor adding 12 Lakh new customers.
Aircel, Videocon & Tata registerd negative growth, Aircel lost about 6.75 Lakhs, Tata Docomo losing about 1.4 Lakhs & Videocon lost 2.5 Lakh customers in March.
The total number of Active connections as of March, 2012 were 683 Million out of a total Mobile base of 919 Million. It means that 74.31% of the total mobile subscribers in India are active. Circle-wise, J&K has the highest proportion of VLR subscribers with 84.46% followed by Assam (82.40%) and MP (81.48 %); Mumbai has the lowest proportion with 64.11%. Service Provider wise, Idea leads the tally with 93.45% followed by Bharti (91.73%); STel is at the bottom with 28.53%.
Mobile Number Portibility
By the end of March, about 41.88 million subscribers had submitted MNP request with Karnataka leading with 4.53 million request followed by Andhra Pradesh with 3.99 million & Gujarat with 3.88 million request for Mobile Number Portability. In the month of March alone about 47 Lakhs MNP request were given by Mobile Subscriber across the country.
