Supreme Court gives more time for Fresh 2G Auctions to the Government

The Supreme Court of India has extended the time the deadline for 2G Spectrum Auction to 31st August, a relief to many of the operator whose license stand cancelled after the historic decision of the Supreme Court earlier this year.

Now all the telecom operators would be able to continue till 7th September after which the 2G the existing licences for 2G spectrum shall become non operational.

Tough Supreme Court has announced a bit a of Good news, TRAI on the other hand brought a bad news yesterday by recommending a 13 fold hike in the price of 2G Spectrum to be auctioned.

Every Operator, Industry bodies, consumer are unhappy with such recommendations as these recommendation if accepted would be lead a price hike and would definitely be a big blow to India’s dream of better Rural Teledensity and Broadband Revolution.

In response to the Government plea, the Court said, “You ask for 400 days. That is your prayer. How much time did you take to complete the process in 2008?

Also as per the new recommendation, only one operator can come back among the nine who lost their license. These are just recommendations, the final call will be taken by the Empowered Government of Minister (EGoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. So lets just hope everything goes right for us, the consumers.
