Mobile Phone tariffs set to hike by about 25%-30%

All most all telecom operators of the country are gearing up for hiking the Mobile Tariffs once again. As per Economic Times, mobile tariffs will rise upto 30% this year and this time tariffs would be increased for both Prepaid & Postpaid Customers.

In 2008, when the telecom sector was opened for new players, mobile tariff went south to reach the world lowest. Then came 3G auctions followed by 3G revolution which literally failed to make an impact. Teleco’s share of profit was getting reduced and 3G auctions brought additional burden on them.

Now DoT is planning charge one time Fees to all telecom operators for holding excess spectrum beyond 6.2 Mhz which will increase the overall burden by around Rs. 17,000 crores.

Vodafone has very recently raised tariffs for their postpaid customers in January this year. Earlier last year also, each operator has hiked tariffs about 20%.
