Well this is just a bit of surprise as everyone is more concerned about the upcoming 2G auctions and matters related to it, but Idea seems to expand the horizon of its services by launching Basic Land Line Service in the Financial Capital of the country, the Mumbai. The Department of Telecom has allotted 795 series numbers to Idea Cellular for providing Basic Telephone Service.
Some time back, the DoT had allotted 793 code to the MTS to launch the service across India but just after that the Supreme Court announced its historical judgement and MTS had to leave its plans about Land Line service. But since Idea has no reason to worry for at least Mumbai circle, we might see the launch happening soon.
As of now, there is state owned telco, MTNL offering Land Line Service apart from private operators like Reliance, Tata, Airtel and Vodafone already present in the Mumbai circle. It would be interesting to see what sort of competition can Idea pose to these incumbents.
