Finally the day has arrived we all have been waiting for, BBM will be releasing for Android & iOS this weekend. BlackBerry has today officially announced that its famous Messenger, the BBM will be available on Android (Google Play) starting 21st September (Saturday) and on iOS starting 22nd September (Sunday).
Few months back BlackBerry announced this move but without any time line and finally the iconic social network is here – BBM for All. If you are interested in downloading BBM to your Android or iOS device, just head over to www.bbm.com on your phone’s browser (on the above mentioned dates) and follow the detailed process thereafter. Also you can go to your respective App Stores and download the same (starting 21st September, 2013 – Saturday).
For Android users, BBM will be available for only those running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher and for iOS user, you can download BBM only if you have iOS 6 or higher on your device. Also you will not dedicated BlackBerry (BIS) Plan or BBM Plan to run this, it will work with your regular Data Connection (Wi-Fi or 3G/LTE or 2G)
In a related move, Micromax has just now announced that the BBM will come pre-loaded on new Micromax smartphones from the first week of October. Micromax is one of the leading smart phone brands in India and this tie up with BBM will surely expand BBM’s reach on Android in India. Existing Micromax Smart Phone users can download the same on Google Play Store or by visiting www.bbm.com
However, there are few features that won’t be available to Android and iOS user. Starting BBM Video calling and BBM Voice calling services, they will not be available to Android and iOS devices in the initial release. However, BlackBerry might introduce them at a later stage.
So why everybody is so excited about BBM for Android/iOS?
- Secure – you don’t need to share your email or phone number with new/casual contacts. All you need is a BBM Pin (that maintains your privacy) to start having a conversation with them. This feature is not available in other apps like WhatsApp, Line, and WeChat etc.
- Fast & Immediate – Just like any other messaging app, this too is fast & always on. BBM always tells you that messages are delivered and read.
